Dehradun, India – Aloka Dasgupta Niyogi, a distinguished educationist, social entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and visionary founder of The Literary Table (TLT), is proud to announce the release of her debut novel, Inheritors of Silence: Four Generations and a Forgotten Homeland. This evocative work of fiction explores the enduring impact of the 1947 Partition of India and the deep, often painful ties that bind people to their ancestral roots.

The novel, a poignant narrative of family, identity, and history, centers around the Dasgupta family, spanning four generations. At the heart of the story is Anurima, the firstborn of the fourth generation, whose life is shaped by the stories of a homeland long lost to history—the family’s ancestral roots in Bangladesh. Anurima’s journey of self-discovery and the search for her heritage is the soul of the novel. The tale is interwoven with the traumatic displacement of the Partition, showing how the echoes of this loss reverberate through generations, affecting the very sense of identity and belonging.

“The stories of our past are not always as accessible as we hope,” says Dr. Niyogi. “But they live on in us, in the ‘silent heirlooms’ we carry without even realizing. Inheritors of Silence is about uncovering those memories, rediscovering what we have lost, and understanding how the past continues to shape who we are.”

The novel is set in 1991, when Anurima, navigating the complexities of marital life and motherhood, is driven by an unshakable desire to reconnect with her roots. A dream beckons her to reclaim her forgotten homeland, a place now existing only in her imagination and memory. As she embarks on this journey, she uncovers not just her family’s lost history, but also the deep emotional truths about the displacement caused by Partition.

In addition to being an author, Aloka Dasgupta Niyogi is the Festival Director of the TLT Literature & Arts Festival, which she successfully launched as an annual event that brings together authors and readers from across the country. Under her leadership, TLT has grown into a leading platform for promoting literature and encouraging dialogue around books.
